BioStadt Bremen currently holds the presidency of the European Organic Cities Network Europe (OCNE). Against this background, Bremen is hosting the international conference “The Future of Organic Food” on 14 and 15 September, 2023. Representatives of the European organic cities, interested municipalities, European initiatives as well as representatives of the German government and the EU Commission are invited.
Bremen was the first city in Germany in 2018 to decide to convert the public communal catering of the municipality to up to 100 percent organic products. BioStadt Bremen is coordinating the implementation of the “Action Plan 2025 – Healthy Nutrition in the Municipality of Bremen” and has advanced the establishment of a food competence center. In addition, BioStadt Bremen is committed to building regional value chains and offers projects and consumer information for the public, e.g. with the project “Mehr Bio für Bremen” (“More Organic for Bremen”) and the annual organic market festival.
At the conference on 14 September, three main topics will be addressed in various keynotes, panels and workshops. Firstly, we will examine the role of cities in the transformation of our food system. We will then focus on the development and relevance of regional value chains and finally – yet importantly – the leverage effect of public catering.
The speakers will include Claudio Serafini (OCNE), Dr. Tina Andres (BÖLW), Line Nielsen (Changing Food Copenhagen), Dr. Jürn Sanders (FiBL Europe) and many more.
In addition to the exciting stage program, there will be a “Market of Opportunities”, a fair with organic start-ups from Bremen as well as lighthouse projects and initiatives that are promoting and building regional value chains.
On 15 September, excursions will be made to various organic start-ups and organic initiatives in Bremen in order to put theory into practice.
We are looking forward to an inspiring international dialogue and exchange of views!
