Urban food policy: The City of Milan has put together a report in which it brings together research and best practices from European cities that are leading the way in urban food systems transformation. The City of Milan started working on the topic of best-practice urban food policies in 2015 and now occupies a lead role in promoting and driving topic. The main objective of the report is to encourage and enable debate, discussion, dissemination, mutual learning and the sharing of best practices among the active stakeholders.

The report, “European cities leading in urban food systems transformation, Connecting Milan & FOOD 2030”, explores in depth two of the key food policy frameworks, the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact and Food 2030, with a focus on the European regionalisation process conducted by Eurocities. The European Commission is greatly interested in the potential of urban contexts to address food-related issues, and the report provides a general overview of the actions and measures carried out by 101 European cities as well as eight in-depth best practices, and a thorough analysis of Milan’s experience.
